BDE 5.1.1
Thanks to the RAD Tools Integration team the BDE can now be deployed quickly and easily with the Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI). A new BDE merge module is now available that can be used with any Windows Installer-based development tool, such as InstallShield for Windows Installer or Wise for Windows Installer. This merge module includes all the files and logic needed to deploy the current version of the BDE. Simply include the merge module in your install project and use the included Merge Module Wizard to configure the settings that you wish to deploy.

Updated Oracle 8 SQL Links Driver (197,710 bytes)(uploaded 7/26/00) This update applies to BDE 5.11 only. It was created specifically to address the following problem:

    BLOCK FETCH

  1. When you have ROWSET SIZE >1 in the BDE Cfg the DBGrid was showing duplicate records.
  2. Sum()aggregation with a field containing NULL values caused an AV.

Installation instructions are included in the ZIP file. The latest available version of the Borland Database Engine (BDE) and SQL Links is version 5.1.1. This BDE 5.1.1 upgrade install will update any previous version of the US 32-bit BDE drivers with BDE 5.1.1. To see the version of BDE files you have installed on your system, run the BDE Administrator tool provided with your Borland development tool, click on your Configuration tab, then select Object | Version Information from the menu.

Important Update Notes:

  • Due to missing exports in IDAPI32.DLL, Midas apps created with Delphi 3 will not work with BDE 5.1.1. If you are using Midas with Delphi 3, you need to use IDAPI32.DLL from BDE 5.1.0.

  • Extended testing of the FoxPro driver has shown it may cause corrupted indexes, crashes or Access Violations when a FoxPro index is updated. Therefore, we recommend read only use of the FoxPro driver at this time. This applies to all versions of the BDE FoxPro driver.

  • The Oracle 8 driver has a new feature where ROWSET SIZE is now implemented the same as the Oracle 7 driver. See SQLLNK32.HLP for information on what ROWSET SIZE does. However, ROWSET SIZE has caused problems for some users. If you encounter a new problem with the BDE 5.1.1 Oracle 8 driver, set ROWSET SIZE to 0 to insure that ROWSET SIZE is not the problem.

  • This update will not place BDE files on a system which does not already include an older BDE version. This is an update program, not an installation program. Due to legal reasons, this will exclude the BDE from becoming freeware from Borland. Under your Borland license agreement, you still have the right to distribute the BDE, including this version, with your programs.

  • In all cases, if the core BDE files are found, the entire BDE 5.1.1 core will be installed. Versions of the BDE that did not have the native FoxPro or MSACCESS driver will have these new drivers installed; Existing drivers will be updated.

  • Only files found in the registered BDE directory will be updated. For example, if you do not have SQL Links in the registered BDE directory, the SQL Links will not be placed on the system. This is also true for the BDE32.HLP file, Datapump, MIDAS, and BDE cab file.

  • Existing BDE configuration files are not updated. However, we do recommend backing up the configuration file before performing the upgrade. We also recommend installing the new version over the old version, rather than putting it into a new directory.

  • All versions of the 32 Bit BDE are backward compatible. Almost any 32 Bit Borland product can take advantage of the new features of BDE 5.1.1.

  • If you need to update the BDE for an application you deploy to customers, you may deploy this update install along with your application, or suggest to your customers that they download the BDE Update install from this page.

  • If you are updating from a BDE version prior to version 5.0 this update does not provide the Oracle 8 driver. You must update to BDE 5.01 or 5.0 first to obtain the Oracle 8 driver.

  • If you are updating from a BDE version prior to version 5.01 this update does not provide the DB2 Version 5 driver. You must update to BDE 5.01 first to obtain the DB2 Version 5 driver.

    IMPORTANT NOTE:
BDE 5.1.1 has not been certified for use with Intrabuilder. Using BDE 5.1.1 with this product is not recommended and is not supported by Borland at this time.
